Jim Dever, hosted King5's Evening Magazine at Big Al Brewing in White Center Dec. 17. The show will air on Monday Dec. 20 at 7:00 pm.
Big Al Brewing normally opens its tasting room doors at three p.m. on a Friday, but Dec. 17 was a special occasion and they opened up shop at 10 a.m. for Evening Magazine host Jim Dever and his camera crew to shoot their show at the brewery at 9832 14th Ave s.w.
The show picked Big Al’s based on a Twitter poll where Dever asked viewers where they would like Friday’s show to be. The producers of King 5’s show didn’t have a location in mind, so Dever decided to let the people decide through social media.
One of Big Al’s good customers nominated the brewery on Wednesday, Dec. 15 and within moments Big Al had the information sent out to all of his Twitter and Facebook followers.
His loyal clientele took action and Big Al Brewing ran away with the election, leading the entire time and receiving 150 votes out of 400 (there were 20 different locations nominated).
“Our fans rallied together to make this happen,” Big Al said as the Evening Magazine show wrapped up on a sunny Friday afternoon.
Dever said the Evening Magazine shoots from a different location for each show, so, “location serves as studio.”
Dever and his cameraman organically moved through the tasting room and backroom brewery, setting up different shots to talk about a myriad of topics for the Evening Magazine episode that will air on Monday, Dec. 20 at 7 p.m.
Although Dever said he would like to do an entire show on brewing, there were other stories to be told as well.
Big Al Brewing “cellar man” Karl Holzboog said getting the “well used” brewing area ready for TV took some work, but it was worth the effort.
“It’s fun having these guys here, it’s a neat change of pace,” he said.
Big Al Brewing opened on August 7, 2008 and serves a wide variety of craft beers made right in White Center. Visit their website at www.bigalbrewing.com for more information.
Big Al said his crew plans to gather in the tasting room on Monday night, Dec. 20, at 7 p.m. to watch the Evening Magazine show and invites everyone to come down.
“This is truly the happiest place on earth,” Holzboog said, describing his place of employment.
