Harvey Louis Grohs, 83 a long-time resident of Des Moines, passed away on December 17, 2006.
Harvey was born January 21, 1923, in Portland, Ore., where he served on the Portland police department and as a rescue diver for 10 years. Then Harvey moved his family to Seattle in 1957 to open his own business, Harvey's Skin Diving Suits Inc. This was a life-long dream to open his own dive store. He started making his own dive suits for customers and by 1966 was selling suits around the world. Today Harvey's suits are well known world-wide as one of the best. Harvey loved to travel to other countries with his wife and kids to find new business, and for all his hard work he received the President E Award for exporting. Harvey moved his family to Des Moines in 1968, where he built his family home and lived there until his death. Harvey retired in 1986 but keep busy with the Seattle Seafair Commodores, raising exotic birds, working with wood in his woodshop, gardening and just being at home with his loving wife for the last 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma, in June 2006. He is survived by his son Larry (Martie) of Des Moines; daughter Riva Bjorklund (Duane) of Federal Way; sister Gladys White of Portland; and grandchildren Nina, Kristina, Matt and Greg Grohs.
Funeral services were held December 28, 2006, at Yahn and Son Funeral Home in Auburn, followed by burial at Mt. View Cemetery.
