UPDATE: Snow might be headed our way this weekend and next week
Fri, 01/07/2011
The National Weather Service has updated a Special Weather Statement regarding the potential of snow showers this weekend in our area with Sunday morning looking the most likely for snow to arrive and stick, though most likely locations are well outside West Seattle. They predict that it could be similar to what we saw on December 29. Then next week, Wednesday has the potential for what they characterize as a "Heavy snow event."

...SNOW POTENTIAL THIS WEEKEND AND IN THE WEEK TO COME...
AN UPPER LEVEL TROUGH WILL MOVE SOUTHWARD THROUGH WESTERN WASHINGTON TONIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY USHERING IN COOLER TEMPERATURES.
THE BEST CHANCE FOR ACCUMULATING SNOW IN THE NEXT 24 HOURS WILL BE IN THE AREAS WHERE CONVERGENCE FORMS. THE BEST CHANCE FOR SNOW SHOWERS TONIGHT WILL BE FROM AROUND SNOHOMISH COUNTY NORTH AND EAST TO THE FOOTHILLS. MOST AREAS WILL LIKELY RECEIVE LESS THAN AN INCH BUT LOCALIZED AMOUNTS UP TO 3 INCHES COULD OCCUR IF A DECENT CONVERGENCE ZONE FORMS. BY EARLY SUNDAY MORNING THE THREAT OF SNOW SHOWERS MAINLY SHIFTS SOUTH ACROSS THE CENTRAL PUGET SOUND REGION.
LOCALIZED AMOUNTS NEAR 1 INCH COULD FALL BUT MOST LOCATIONS ARE LIKELY TO RECEIVE LITTLE OR NO ACCUMULATION.
MONDAY AND TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK WILL BE COLD AND DRY.
STARTING WEDNESDAY THROUGH THE END OF NEXT WEEK...THERE IS THE
POTENTIAL FOR A WIDESPREAD HEAVY SNOW EVENT SOMEWHERE IN WESTERN
WASHINGTON. GREAT UNCERTAINTY INHERENTLY EXISTS IN A FORECAST WITH
THIS MUCH LEAD TIME...AND IT IS POSSIBLE THAT A HEAVY SNOW SITUATION WILL NOT DEVELOP.
CHECK BACK LATE THIS WEEKEND OR ON MONDAY FOR THE LATEST ON THIS POTENTIAL HIGH-IMPACT EVENT. IF THE POTENTIAL STILL EXISTS AT THAT TIME...THEN THE DRY WEATHER ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY WOULD AFFORD AN EXCELLENT OPPORTUNITY TO PREPARE.
