Update on Jan. 12: A trial date for Kalebu will be set on Friday, Jan. 14 by Judge Micheal Hayden.
On Jan. 10 King County Judge Michael Hayden ruled that Isaiah Kalebu is competent to stand trial after testimony was completed in his competency trail, according to King County prosecutors.
Kalebu, the man charged with first degree aggravated murder, first degree attempted murder, first degree rape and first degree burglary for the July 2009 murder of a South Park women and assault of her partner appeared in court on Dec. 7 for the start of his competency hearing to determine whether he was competent to stand trail.
According to a KOMO News report, the doctor “who interviewed Kalebu last May said he showed no signs of psychosis or paranoid delusions, but does demonstrate traits of anti-social personality disorder.”
A West Seattle Herald story from August of 2009 said, “It's suspected that (Kalebu) may have a form of undiagnosed bi-polar disorder and manic depression, though that has not yet been determined. It is unknown whether that played a role in the July 19 assault and murder.
The man suspected of killing 39-year-old Teresa Butz, Isaiah Kalebu, 23, has entered a plea of not guilty in King County Superior Court on charges aggravated murder, first-degree attempted murder, first-degree rape and first-degree burglary.
He remains in King County Jail on $10 million bail.
Kalebu is accused of entering the house of Butz and her 36-year-old partner through an open window at a home in the South Park neighborhood on July 19. The other woman was seriously injured but is recovering.”
As more information on specifics of the competency hearing and future trial dates for Kalebu become available this story will be updated.
