George C Anex passed away on the morning of April 17, 2007, in Des Moines. He touched countless lives in his 83 years, as a businessman, friend, father and husband.
George was born June 10, 1923, in Sumner, and moved with his family when he was still a toddler to Boulevard Park. He was in the Class of '41 at Highline High School, where he excelled in academics and sports, winning an athletic scholarship to Yale University. Drafted to serve in the U.S. Army during World War II, his college days were cut short. At the end of the war he returned home to the Burien area to help his father in the family greenhouse business. During this time he met and married the love of his life, Wilmina Ritchie. They were married for 51 years before Miny passed away in March, 2002. George had a successful greenhouse business for many decades, enjoying a reputation as an honest man with a wry sense of humor. He retired in 1980. He was an active and enthusiastic outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing his whole life.
He is survived by his four children, Becky (Chris) Golden, Sue (Mike) Love, George R. Anex and Patrick (Debby) Anex; four grandchildren, Kerri (Mark) Dame, Daniel Spadoni, Kristin (Jason) Prendergast and Jennifer Anex; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Sam and Charlie Dame; and his brother Basil (Gretchen) Anex.
We will remember Dad as a gentle father and grandfather. The family suggests that remembrances in George's name be made to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
