Robert Loren Allsopp, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away July 9 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Born September 12, 1920, in Bellingham, he spent most of his life as a Renton resident, graduating from Renton High School.
After two tours of duty with the Air Force, he met and married Hazel Dougherty of Payette, Idaho, in August of 1954. They moved to Renton, where they spent most of their married life, raising two daughters.
Robert worked briefly at the Boeing Company on the B-17 Bomber before entering the service. His life's work would be as an upholsterer and in the business of furniture repair.
He was an avid fisherman, and loved the outdoors. He also loved working in his gardens.
He will be remembered by all for his generosity, compassion and gentle spirit.
He leaves behind two daughters, Judy Grandstrand (Mark) of Renton, and Karen Aspelund (Randy) of Kent. He will be greatly missed by his four grandchildren Sara and Brett Grandstrand, and Nathan and Ryan Aspelund, his sister Winona Schwartz (Frank) and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Hazel, two brothers, Daryl and LeRoy, and one sister, Eloise.
A private family service will be held on August 2 at Tahoma National Cemetery. A celebration of Robert's life will be held on August 4 at 11 a.m. at New Life Church in Renton. Interment will be at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the American Alzheimer's Association.
