Police Blotter: unlocked doors attract unwanted visitors

2:02 p.m. on February 18. 30th block of NW 54th Street
On Friday afternoon police responded to a report of an aggravated assault.
The victim said that she was in the process of moving out of her residence. She had left the doors unlocked and was inside cleaning when she encountered a stranger inside her residence.
The victim asked the suspect what he was doing and asked him to leave.
“It’s a public park so I can be here,” the suspect responded at which point the victim called 911.
The suspect slapped the victim twice, causing her to fall, and the suspect continued to kick her while she was on the floor.
The suspect fled and the victim declined medical assistance.
4:05 a.m. on February 19. 78th block of Dayton Avenue N
In the early hours of Saturday morning police responded to a reported burglary. The homeowner said the suspect had walked in through an unlocked back door. When the suspect was confronted, he fled the residence taking nothing. The suspect fled eastbound on N 78th Street and was described as a 6-foot, thin, white male in his twenties. He was wearing a black knit hat, a black vest over a red jacket, and dark pants.
11:18 a.m. on February 19. 7th block of 77th Street
On Saturday morning police responded to a reported theft. The victim said that around 10:00 p.m. on Friday night he heard “creaking” noises near the front door, which is left unlocked while the victim’s family is home. The victim noticed the next morning that keys, an iPhone, and his Toyota Tundra were missing. The victim said that his iPhone and wife’s keys to two cars and the house were on the dining room table. He suspected that the suspect took three steps inside through the unlocked door and took the iPhone and keys from the table. The other vehicle, a Honda CRV, was left untouched.
