Pair flees on motorcycle at speeds topping 100 mph
A deputy was trying to make a "routine" traffic stop near Covington when the two occupants, a man and a woman, got out and sprinted away. Additional deputies were called and they surrounded the area where the two disappeared. As deputies searched for the pair, a motorcycle with no plates, driven by a man, with a woman passenger, peeled out of the area at high speed and almost struck a deputy.
Deputies followed the motorcycle as it wound through South King County at speeds of more than 100 mph, on Interstate 5, Highway 518 and Highway 99. When the motorcycle ended up on a jogging trail, the passenger either fell or jumped off the bike and was arrested.
The motorcyclist continued driving until he reached the area near Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. A sheriff's helicopter lost track of the motorcycle when it went through a tunnel. Television news helicopters, however, continued to follow the motorcycle. When the motorcyclist ran out of gas near Westfield Southcenter Mall, television reporters called a Sheriff's deputy. The man pushed the bike for a short time then ran into a nearby restaurant. Deputies found the 25-year-old Maple Valley man in the bathroom. They also recovered a handgun.
Snowball breaks windshield
A man was driving northbound on 1st Ave. South and South 143rd St. when a large snowball struck the top right of his windshield. The driver followed the suspect down the street and saw a police officer. He flagged down the officer and pointed out the suspect. The officer arrested the suspect and he was booked into King County Jail on vandalism charges.
Money and jewelry stolen
On Feb. 27, a man returned home to find his belongings missing. It appeared someone had pushed the window-mounted air conditioner inside the room and on to a table. The computer monitor in front of the window had been knocked over and a double pane Plexiglas window, used to close off the opening above the air conditioner, was on the floor inside the room.
The homeowner noticed some jewelry and cash was missing from his room. In the other bedroom the dresser doors were slightly ajar but nothing appeared to be missing. The deputy processed the scene and was able to lift some fingerprints, which were submitted into evidence.
