Brigitte Sieglinde (Schレn) Bates, age 58, of Arlington passed away on September 28, 2007, at Swedish Medical Center. Born February 17, 1949, in Gelsenkirchen, West Germany, Brigitte moved with her family to Quebec, Canada, in 1955 and then to Chicago Heights, Ill., in 1957. After 10 years in Chicago, most of her family then moved to Renton where she graduated from Renton High School in 1969.

On June 27th 1970 she married the love of her live, Al 'Tiger' Bates in Seattle. Soon after they moved to Boulevard Park where they lived for more than 30 years.

On February 12, 1973, they celebrated the birth of their fist son Jason, and then on November 22, 1976, they welcomed the birth of their second son Kurt. March 4, 2000, after much anticipation she was finally an Oma after Kurt's wife Catrenia gave birth to Shelby. The birth of her granddaughter lifted her sprits after years of having to deal with various illnesses.

Brigitte was a loving wife, mother, oma, sister, aunt and friend. Her favorite activity was spending time in her sewing room making a variety of projects which included making quilts for the St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Family was very important to her and she loved to spend all the time she could with her loved ones.

Brigitte was preceded in death by her parents Willi and Erika Schレn, brother Hans and sister Edie Baumann.

She is survived by her loving husband, Al, of Arlington; sons and their wives Jason and Kathy Bates of Puyallup and Kurt and Catrenia Bates with only granddaughter Shelby Lee Bates of Arlington; sisters Erika (Jim) Cox of Buckley, Karen (Andy) Evers of Chicago, Helga (Dean) LaFountain of Arlington and Irene (Chi) Diep of Shoreline; brothers Willi (Muoi) Schレn of Puyallup, Frank (Caroline Mollenberg) Schレn of Auburn and brother-in-law Guenther Baumann of Chicago, as well as several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Swedish Hospital ICU, Dr. Richard Stein and the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America for all that they have done for Brigitte.

Viewing was held October 4 and 5, with the funeral at Weller Funeral Home in Arlington on October 5, followed by graveside services at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Silvana, Wash.
