Ed Whitmore was a man who loved life and lived every day to its fullest. He was an old-fashioned honorable man who took pride in his outstanding problem-solving abilities.
Ed was born in Malta, Montana, to Gertrude McDonald Whitmore and Archie Alden Whitmore. He had one sister, Margaret, and two brothers, Hugh and Bob. In the early 1920s he moved with his family to Washington state and he graduated from Ellensburg High School in 1932. It was in Ellensburg that he met Margery Gould. They dated in high school and college and married in 1937, once Ed had graduated from the University of Washington's School of Engineering. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation for a few years and later moved to Boeing, where he had a long and rewarding career.
Ed loved his family: his wife. Margery, his parents and siblings and in-laws, his daughters Marty and Jean, their husbands Jerry and Mike, his grandchildren Mike, Mary and Kathleen, Mary's husband Jim, and his great-granddaughter Julia. He loved his nieces and nephews and their families.
Besides his career at Boeing, Ed had many hobbies: music, writing, gardening, flying, golf, skiing and bowling. He enjoyed being out in nature. He loved being with family and friends and he organized many reunions and tournaments.
Ed had a wonderful and productive life and died in his own home on November 2 of a stroke. We will miss him terribly. There will be a celebration of his life at a later date. Any contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
