Passed away November 16, 2007, at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by his son Curtis on October 31, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Fay; and daughters Dian (Kent), Judy (Tom) and Sharon; grandsons Brian (Natalie), John (Audra), Ryan; granddaughters Michele (Ken), Jennifer (Gary), Jacquelyn (Antar), Justina (Chad); and 13 great-grandchildren.
Arthur, the son of Conrad and Magdalena Butherus, was born and raised in Walla Walla, Washington. He was one of 10 children, four brothers and five sisters. He is survived by four sisters, Lydia Sisk of Pasco, Ruth Collins of Walla Walla, Jeanette Kennar of Oregon and Joyce Sterry of Hawaii, and many nieces and nephews.
After serving in the National Guard and the U.S. Army during WWII, Art and Fay moved to Seattle. Art was the owner of Butherus Construction, using his skilled craftsmanship in carpentry to build custom homes.
He was an avid hunter and enjoyed many seasons of hunting with his son, sons-in-law and grandson.
His legacy of "work hard, provide for your family, don't complain and have fun" was instilled in his children and grandchildren.
Services will be held at Marlatt Funeral Home, 715 Central Ave. N., Kent, at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 28, 2007. Burial will follow at Tahoma National Cemetery, 18600 S.E. 240th St., Kent, at 12:30 p.m.
Viewing is Tuesday, November 27, from 1 to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, November 28, from 9 to 11 a.m.
