Michael was born to Jack and Paulette O'Brian on June 16, 1926, in the tranquil town of Roundup in his beloved state of Montana. Mike quietly and peacefully left this world in the arms of his loving family on December 6, 2007, at the age of 81.
Mike was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather respected for his generosity, caring and genuine friendship he extended to all. Although only 16, he volunteered for duty as a Merchant Marine and then proudly served with the United States Navy to return home in 1946 to his family a true hero of World War II.
Ever resourceful and more of a craftsman than handyman he applied his skills in many occupations over the years to retire from the mobile home service industry to focus on his family and friends. Mike was very active in his retirement and loved his family recreational property on the Cle Elum River, where he hosted many wonderful and love filled gatherings for his family and friends. Other activities included a close contact with several service organizations, including Paralyzed American Veterans, USO and the American Legion. Mike was a true patriot, very proud of his military service; he was always concerned about and willing to help any veteran or serviceman at any time.
His ever friendly, sincere and helpful presence will be missed by all whose lives he so graciously touched.
Over the years, he gathered a large extended family by his side. He is survived by Barbara, cherished wife of 18 years; sister, Margaret Robinson (Bill), brother Jack (Violet) and brothers-in-law Ray Dahl and Lynn Anderson (Sue); children Michael, Gary (Eileen) both of Montana, Michele Johnson (Dave), Bobbie Lynn, Steven (Jane), Rick Peck (Sheila), Debbie Hoover, Cheryl Randall (Brad) and Lori Strong (Dennis); 21 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
