Seattle music legend Duff McKagan and his band rocked the roof off Neumos on Capitol Hill last night with the support of West Seattle musicians, filmmakers, and many fans. When West Seattle filmmaker Jamie Chamberlin was no on stage himself, armed with his instrument, a video camera filming the action, he was shoehorned in the front row pressed against the fans and the edge of the stage to get more close-up footage. Assisting him with a second video camera was Eric Cozens, a Loaded fan, and the well-known co-owner of the Mission Latin Restaurant & Lounge in the Admiral Junction.
Backing up "Duff" were Loaded guitarist and vocalist Mike Squires, shirtless drummer Isaac Carpenter, and bass player, vocalist, and West Seattle resident Jeff Rouse.
West Seattle fans included Emily Shepherd, the sister of Soundgarden bassist Ben Shepherd, rock opera composer Reed Hutchinson, members of West Seattle band Villains of Yesterday, musician and co-owner of Shadowland Ben Jenkins, and Chamberlin's girlfriend, Kathy Bell.
Chamberlin has been in the news recently due to the March 31 release of his video of the new Loaded song Dead Skin, the first release from the album, The Taking. He has been filming Loaded around West Seattle and in L.A. for a new project, morphing documentary with a fictional story line and all 10 songs from The Taking. The film's title is not yet decided.
McKagan, 47, better known as "Duff", played for 13 years with Guns N' Roses, recently did a stint with Jane's Addiction, and is the bassist for Velvet Revolver. He writes a weekly music column for the Seattle Weekly. He has a reputation of being business savvy, and has written on finance for publications including Playboy.
Duff's celebrity wife, Susan Holmes, stars in the video. A supermodel, swimsuit designer and cast member of last year's reality TV show, Married to Rock, Holmes reveals her lively curves in Dead Skin.
Chamberlin and McKagan hope that by this summer they will release the deluxe edition of The Taking to include the CD and DVD of the movie, and to present the work at film festivals.
