Woman pulled from car dies
Rescuers pulled a woman from a car submerged in the Duwamish River on Thursday April 21, but she could not be saved. Just two blocks from a fire station in Tukwila, 11600 block of 42nd Ave. S. rescue workers were able to respond within minutes and locate the car in the water. The first divers on the scene were able pull the unconscious woman from her car. They began compressions immediately. Rescue crews tried to revive the woman for almost an hour, working feverishly inside an ambulance at the scene, but they were not successful. At this point, rescuers believe this was all just an accident and aren't saying what might have caused the woman to go into the water on the straight stretch of road. The investigation is ongoing.
Handguns stolen after truck smashes through window
Tukwila police are looking for two men who smashed a truck through the front doors of a gun shop and made off with several handguns. Investigators said the thieves worked very quickly, breaking into the Discount Gun Sales store at 311 Tukwila Parkway about 4 a.m. and taking off with the stolen guns in just one minute. A trail of broken glass from the shop led officers to a Ford F-150 pickup truck dumped several blocks away at Bicentennial Park, where the thieves apparently switched vehicles. The truck had been stolen from somewhere in Kent. No description of the thieves was released. Detectives are reviewing security camera video from inside the store and looking at recordings from nearby traffic cameras. The store owner is checking inventory to determine exactly how many weapons were stolen.
Early morning chase on I-5
Three people were arrested after a chase on Interstate 5 near Boeing Field that caused a large traffic backup Officials said the incident began about 7 a.m. Wednesday, April 20, when police spotted a car on southbound I-5 with expired license tabs. The driver refused to stop and sped south on the freeway until one of his tires blew out near South Boeing Access Road. The driver and two other men who were in the car ditched the vehicle in the middle of the freeway and ran off. They were all captured a short time later along Airport Way South. Three lanes of I-5 were briefly blocked, but incident created a large backup during the morning commute. Officials said the driver had a revoked license and the two other men had outstanding arrest warrants.
Police chase ends with a crash
Two men and a woman were rushed to the hospital after a police chase ended with a crash on Interstate 5 near Southcenter Mall. Witnesses called 911 to report a possible abduction after they saw a woman apparently being pushed into a car against her will. Renton police soon spotted the car, with three occupants inside, and began following it. The driver of the suspect car then took off, and a chase began heading north on I-5. Suddenly, the driver of the car turned around and began heading south in the northbound lanes of the freeway. Police ended the pursuit at that point, and the drama ended when the fleeing car crashed head-on into a red Ford, Judd said. Two suspects and the woman who were in the fleeing vehicle were rushed to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. Their injuries are not considered life threatening. The driver of the red Ford sustained minor injuries and was not hospitalized. Police are now investigating to see if abduction actually happened, Judd said. The names of the suspects were not immediately available.
