Dr. Vernon D. Clausing, an admired and devoted Burien physician, passed away on February 24, 2008, he was 85 years old.Born in Norman, Oklahoma on September 16, 1922, Vernon Clausing attended Oklahoma University, A&M College, and graduated in 1945 from the Des Moines College of Osteopathy & Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. Upon graduation Dr. Clausing came to Seattle where he completed his internship at Madison Street Hospital. In 1950 he established the Community Family Practice Clinic in Burien where he practiced for 45 years. Dr. Clausing was President of the King County Osteopathic Medical Society for 10 years and served on the Board of Governors of the Washington Osteopathic Medical Association. He was a member of the King County Medical Society, the Washington State Medical Association and American Medical Association. In 1954 he founded Standring

Memorial Hospital in south Seattle, established the first emergency room services, and was instrumental in establishing the Medic One services in south Seattle.

In 2002 Dr. Clausing was cleared of all charges alleged by the Washington State Attorney Generals Office and King County Sheriff's Office. In 1995 they illegally revoked his medical license, seized his property, destroyed his medical business and interfered with the health care of his 1700 patients. Dr. Clausing was deeply saddened that his patients were denied the quality medical care they deserved as a result of state and county irregularities.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Cleo, son Patrick Hues and his wife Kathy, daughters Cathy Clausing, Colleen Bria and her husband Jerry, grandsons Matthew and Phillip Maxwell and granddaughters Thalia and Dorothy Schienes,

Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., at the Providence Elderplace, 4515 Martin Luther King Jr. Way S., Seattle, 98108. Remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
