Firefighters find marijuana plants while responding to fire
South King County Fire Department was called to a house fire in the 1000 block of South 197th St. Upon arrival crews saw smoke coming from the vents of the roof but were able to extinguish the fire quickly. The fire appeared to have started in the kitchen. Two adults and two teens living in the home were able to make it out safely. Firefighters we able to locate two cats that were in the home. However, there were two other cats that were not located. While searching the home, firefighters found that the house had no working smoke detectors. They also found multiple marijuana plants inside the home.

One woman shot while attending birthday party
King County Sheriff's deputies responded to a call of shots fired in the 1000 block of South 118th St. in Burien. Dispatch advised deputies that multiple gunshots had been fired and several people were fleeing from the area. When deputies arrived they were called into an apartment to conduct a welfare check. They found a young woman lying on a bed who appeared to have suffered gunshot wounds to her back and right arm. The woman was transported to Harborview Medical Center and was listed in stable condition at the time of this report. Deputies interviewed witnesses in and around the apartment who saw a male run from in front of the apartment to a waiting vehicle. Witnesses attending a birthday party stated the young woman was standing in front of the sliding glass door when the shots were fired into the apartment. Deputies collected multiple bullet casings and other evidence from the scene.

Copper theft interrupted
King County Sheriff's deputies responded to an apartment complex in the 100 block of S.W. 116th St. to a report of an attempted copper theft. A security guard patrolling the apartment complex witnessed a male preparing to steal copper piping attached to the ceiling of a carport. He saw the man was wearing a backpack and carrying a hacksaw. The guard scared the man away before he was able to take anything or damage the building. Deputies searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
