Betty J. Hawley
September 1, 1922 December 13, 2008
Betty J. Hawley (Ring) passed from us on December 13, 2008,
but she will forever be with us in our hearts and memories.
Betty passed only five months after the death of her loving
husband, companion, and friend of 66 years, Jack Benjamin
Hawley. Jack and Betty loved the holiday season, and
perhaps Betty couldnt bear to spend Christmas without the
man she loved more than anything.
Betty was born in Kansas City, Missouri, but moved to
Ballard as a young girl, and stayed in Ballard ever since.
Betty met Jack at Ballard High School and they were rarely
apart afterwards. During WWII, Betty even moved to
Ketchikan, Alaska, where Jack was stationed while in the
service, which was a serious violation of military rules.
Betty was a kind, fun, and modest woman who loved to talk
and laugh with her family and friends. She loved parties,
playing cards, playing the piano, gardening, and dogs.
Bettys door was always open and friends and family stopped
by often to chat or play cards. She saw many changes over
the years in Ballard and was not happy about all of them.
However, she very much loved her longtime and more recent,
younger Ballard neighbors who were so good to her in her
final years.
Betty is preceded in death by her loving husband Jack, her
sisters-in-law Jean, Dee, and Betty, her brothers-in-law
Jerry and Ernie, and leaves behind her brothers-in-law
Donald and Chuck, her sister-in-law Bettie (yes there were
lots of Bettys!), her daughters Jan and Judy, her
grandchildren Michael, Marcy, and Jack, and her beloved
great-grandchildren Andrew, Ashley, Morgan, Addison, Luka,
and Hannah.
May you rest in peace Betty Hawley. We know youre with
your Jack now. Say hello to him for us and well see you
both on the other side.
