Anita Amalia BATES Age 102, a longtime resident of Ballard, passed away peacefully in Lynnwood on April 3, 2009. She was born in Nome, Alaska on June 15, 1906 to Eric and Sophia Swanberg. Anita graduated from Ballard High School in 1923. She was a longtime member of Trinity Methodist Church of Ballard and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bates is survived by her son, Sam A. Bates, Jr. & wife Ellie, of Marlton, New Jersey; grandsons, John McLane & wife Cheryl, David McLane & wife Kristine, Douglas McLane, stepgrandson, Kenneth Storbeck, Jr., great grandchildren, Andrew and Elizabeth, and step great-grandson Sam Gronvold. Anita is also survived by other loving relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel A. Bates, Sr., and daughter, Janice McLane. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, April 13, 2009 at Evergreen - Washelli Funeral Home Chapel, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle, WA. 98133. Services will conclude at the chapel with a reception to follow at Fairwinds Brighton Court, 6520 - 196th Street SW, Lynnwood, WA 98036. Private inurnment will be held at Evergreen Memorial Park, Seattle.
