Gunhild Maria Oman, 97 passed away on Sunday, February 3, 2008 surrounded by her family and friends at Providence Mount Saint Vincent in West Seattle, which had been her home for the past 11 years. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Victor (1989) and her daughter, Joanne McDonnell (2007).
Gunhild was born on January 7th, 1911 in Munkedal, Sweden. In Seattle, Gunhild met and married fellow Swede, Victor. They made their home in West Seattle on Walnut Avenue with their three daughters. They were members of Gethsemane Lutheran Church. Gunhild was a devoted wife, mother, cat lover and Swedish cook.
Gunhild is survived by her daughters, Helen York (Joe) and Sylvia Mennen (Dan),
her grandchildren; Vicki, Mike, Brian, Julie, Susan, Bumper, Peter, Sivi, Krissy and Britt.
She was a great-grandmother to 14 and known as “Grandma” to everyone at “The Mount”. We will all miss her bright smile, caring nature and sweet demeanor.
A celebration of Gunhild’s life will take place on Sunday, February 17th at 1:00pm at Providence Mount Saint Vincent Chapel in West Seattle, 4831 35th Avenue SW Seattle, WA. Reception will follow. Remembrances to Providence Mt. St. Vincent Foundation. Gunhild’s family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at “The Mount” for the exceptional care and love she received.
