William Robert Titus

Bill died on March 24, 2008. He was born on April 16, 1924 in West Seattle. His parents were both from pioneer families. Bill graduated from West Seattle High School in 1942. He served honorably in the US Navy during World War II. Bill met his wife, Shirley, on a blind date while both were in high school. They married in 1946, and celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary last August.

Following in his father’s footsteps, Bill worked as a printer at the Seattle Times for 36 years. He was mechanically inclined, and could often be found in his workshop. Bill survived a massive stroke in 1985. Although he remained partially paralyzed, he never lost his spirit and determination. Bill taught himself how to walk, and drive, again after the stroke. Bill also spent many hours volunteering at Providence Mt. St. Vincent after recovering from his stroke. In their retirement years, Bill and Shirley traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, the Panama Canal, and Caribbean. Bill especially enjoyed vacationing at Lake Chelan.

Family was very important to Bill, as was his faith in the Catholic Church. Bill spent his last few years at Providence Mt. St. Vincent, where he was able to continue to practice his faith with the caring community at the “Mount”.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend. Bill is survived by his wife Shirley, sons Richard and Don, and brother Jim.

Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 pm on Friday April 4, at Providence Mt. St. Vincent Chapel, at 4831 35th Ave S.W., Seattle. A reception at the “Mount” will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Providence Mt. St. Vincent Foundation.
