John G. Bellessa
Passed away February 16, 2008 in Seattle, WA surrounded by his family. He was born July 29, 1926 in Roslyn, WA to Mabel and Jocko Bellessa.
John served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He served honorably in the Pacific campaign, winning two Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star among numerous other citations. John rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant before his discharge.
After the Army, John attended the University of Washington, during which time he met the love of his life – Betty Crowell Kirk. He married Betty and they remained together until his passing (58 years).
John worked 25 years for Scientific Supply in the field of optical equipment sales. He continued his professional career in the employ of optical giants Zeiss and Leitz, retiring in 1994.
John spent countless years successfully coaching baseball in Little League, Babe Ruth and American Legion. He continued his passion for sports into his retirement as an avid golfer, fisherman and Seahawks fan. John was an active member of the Westside Italian Civic Club, rising to the position of President.
John is survived by his wife Betty; brother Jim Bellessa; sister Margaret Gallinatti; sons Mike Kirk (Mary) and Stuart “Buzz” Bellessa (Joan); four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Elvira Bernik, Louise Johns and a son Steven.
Services were held Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 1 pm at the Howden-Kennedy Funeral Home of West Seattle, 3909 SW Alaska St, Seattle, WA 98116.
