After a long and courageous battle with cancer Selma Katherine Egli Hayes died peacefully on June 8, 2008. She was born and raised on a farm near New Salem, ND on April 30, 1925 to Oscar P. Egli and Emma L. Kroh Egli and graduated in 1944 at the New Salem High School. She married Samuel Hayes on February 9, 1947.
She was a homemaker for many years and worked at the Kenney Home in West Seattle, WA as a nurse’s aide. Selma and Sam raised 6 children. Selma was a skilled sewer and crocheted many items. In the latter years of her life (2001-2008) she crocheted small blankets that were given to family, friends and new babies at the Highline Medical Center. A very caring, loving and giving person she never asked for much and thought of others more than herself.
Selma is preceded in death by her spouse, Samuel Hayes; her son Duane S. Hayes; her parents Oscar & Emma Egli (New Salem, ND); her brothers, Walter Egli (Lansing, KS), Arthur Egli (New Salem, ND), Erwin Egli (New Salem, ND), John Egli (Washington, IA), & Herbert Egli (Thonotosassa, FL).
She is survived by her sister Mrs. Helen Springer (Lincoln, NE); her children: Linda M. Hayes (Seattle, WA), Ruth E. Hayes (Seattle, WA), Ken L. Hayes (Sumner, WA), Jonathan G. Hayes (Seattle, WA), David W. Hayes (Auburn, WA); and numerous grandchildren and great-grand children.
Funeral Service will on June 19th 11am at Eastridge Christian Assembly, 4500 – 39th Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116 with a gravesite service at Tahoma National Cemetery.
