Eda Adriana Anthony
Funeral services for Eda Adriana Anthony were held on June 26, 2008, at Grace Church, with interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Eda, named after her mother, Eda May Cameron, and father, Adrian Frank Kruller, was born on November 2, 1918, in Seattle, Washington. She attended Alki Elementary School and James Madison Junior High School and graduated from West Seattle High School in 1939. The same year, she met her husband, John Milton Anthony, whom she married two years later. They had two children, Loren John and Adria May.
In 1956, she began her 26-year career at the Seattle Water Department, where she worked as a supervisor in the Customer Accounting Division and was known as Poet Laureate of the Department.
A talented writer, Eda would compose humorous, poignant poems and articles celebrating life. She also enjoyed reading, playing Canasta and Scrabble, singing, and traveling. Her favorite destinations included Japan, Colombia, Europe, Canada, Mexico, and various spots across the U.S. Most recently, she visited Holland, where she was able to meet several of her relatives for the first time.
She was active in her community, serving as a member of the West Seattle Senior Center, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts associations, and the PTA, where she received the Golden Acorn Award for Community Service, the association's highest honor. She served as President as well as board member with the Association of Retired Seattle City Employees (ARSCE) and the 1918 Club, where she maintained lifelong friendships.
Eda passed away in her home on June 22, 2008, surrounded by family.
In addition to her children, Eda is survived by her sister Ellen Andrews; brother A. W. (Bill) Kruller; five grandchildren, Susie, Vincent, Jeff, Sarah, and Christine; and numerous nieces and nephews.
