Mae Hart—loving wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma
Mae Hart passed peacefully while sleeping early Wednesday morning August 13, 2008 at the age of 89. Mae had resided at Arbor Heights Adult Family Home in West Seattle since April 2001 under the loving care of caregivers Vicki Arneson, Ria Trainer, and Bill and Penny Nemoede. The Hart Family expresses their deepest gratitude to Mae’s caregivers for the wonderful care they provided to Mae during the last years of her life.
Mae was born in LaCombe, Alberta, Canada on November 29, 1918. She was raised in Duvall, Washington by her mother Gladys (Garlick) Redmond and her step-father Joseph William Redmond. Mae attended school at Duvall’s Cherry Valley School, and graduated from Seattle’s Queen Anne High School in 1938. She married Hugh Hart of Enumclaw, Washington on December 19, 1939, and the couple made their home in West Seattle’s Admiral District where they raised their four children, all of whom graduated from West Seattle High School. Mae and Hugh celebrated 50 years of marriage at a surprise party held at Salty’s on Alki on their 50th anniversary December 19, 1989. Hugh passed on February 7, 1993, after which Mae continued to work until she retired in 1998 at 80 years of age after 34 years of service to Fred Meyer Stores. Mae was a wonderful mom and devoted grandma who told her family often that she loved them. Thanks for the memories, grandma! You will always be a living presence in our lives.
Interment was held August 19, 2008 at Washington Memorial Park at which Mae’s life story was presented by her granddaughter, Ann Hart. Family and friends gathered afterwards for a celebration of Mae’s life. Mae’s surviving family includes four children—Linda (and Barry) McDonnell, Burien; Dale Hart, Federal Way; Janet (and Doug) Walters, SeaTac; and William (and Carolyn) Hart, West Seattle; and eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren—Doug Hart (Micky and Joey), Federal Way; Deborah (and John) Hansen (Jessica and Jonathan), Federal Way; Ann Hart (Jared Harvey), Auburn; Linnea McDonnell, Bellingham; Tim (and Nikki) Hart (Jaden and Cory), Federal Way; Sandi (and Mike) Enloe, SeaTac; Jeffrey Hart, Kent; and Lori (and Lee) Garth Green, Issaquah.
