Aurora Bowen

West Seattle resident Aurora Bowen passed away September 18, 2008 at the age of 96. She was born April 28, 1912 in Mexico City. Preceded in death in 1997 by her husband, Francis DeWitt Bowen, who was a teacher and principal in the Seattle Public Schools and grandson, Tom Skubitz. Aurora and Francis were married in 1934 in Mexico City and lived in Everett until 1937, when they settled in West Seattle. They raised five children and sponsored several others throughout the years. Aurora was a most gracious, loving woman who worked as a native consultant with the Seattle Public Schools, teaching Spanish and was also on Channel 9, teaching with Senor Ybarra. She was loved by many. Her survivors include her children; Myra Skubitz (Chuck), John Bowen, Aurora Escame, James Bowen (Joanne), and Barbara Quintana (Joan Anderson); nineteen Grandchildren; twenty-seven Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandson. The last months of her life, she resided at Emerald Hills, Edmonds, WA, where she received loving care from Jenica and her staff. Vaya con Dios–Te queremos mucho. Services were held at Holy Rosary Church, September 25, 2008. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Orphans, 1800 112th NE, Suite 3085, Bellevue, WA 98004.
