Police arrest 2 in woman's murder
Police arrested a 23-year-old man and 21-year-old woman for investigation of homicide in the death of Jennifer Walstrand. Walstrand, 28, was found murdered in her apartment last August 31 in the 24000 block of 25th Ave. S in Des Moines. Walstrand died of stab wounds and a head injury. The landlord reported hearing thumping sounds and excessive dog barking the night of the murder. Police say Walstrand's murder was not random and others may be involved. The victim had a history of prostitution and was involved in an Internet dating service.
Foreclosed home had marijuana grow operation
A foreclosed home in the 11800 blk of Occidental Ave. S. was being prepared for sale. The man that was sent to change the locks noticed something suspicious and called police. Deputies went into the house and saw a marijuana grow operation. There was venting material, lots of lighting equipment, reflective material on the walls and several wilted marijuana plants.
Deputies collected an estimated 70 plants from several different rooms. The entire basement and remainder of the home was also being used to grow and cultivate marijuana. All of the windows and doors were boarded up and there was a bypass system used in the electricity system. It appeared that the home could have had up to 500 plants at one time.
Man urinates at bus station
A King County Sheriff's deputy was on patrol in the area of South 176th and Pacific Highway South when he observed a man urinate in public. A 21-year-old male got out of his vehicle, made no attempt to hide from public view, and proceeded to urinate on Metro transit property. The deputy was in a marked patrol car in plain view near the Metro station. The man was placed under arrest for unlawful transit conduct and was suspended from Metro property for the violation.
