Josephine M. MAHON
11-26-27 – 12-07-08    Born in Alberta, Canada,
raised/educated in Vancouver, B.C., married William J.Mahon,
October 2, 1946 in Sacramento.  They have resided since 1951
in West Seattle.
In 1982, she retired from the Telephone Company after 37
years. She is survived by her husband, two children—James
and Constance, 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Josephine (often “Jo”) was an active member in the West
Seattle Garden Club, the 34th Democratic Women, the Senior
Center , the League of Women Voters, and the Red Hatters.
She met her husband, Bill, at a dance while he was still a
sailor and dancing remained a life-long passion.  They were
founding members of the Midniter’s Dance Club now the
Highland Park Improvement Club. She was proud of her ethnic
heritages—Canadian, Norwegian and Czech and made trips to
both Norway and Czechoslovakia as well as regular trips to
Canada. She was a member of the Sons of Norway and the Czech
Genealogical Society.  As a volunteer for the Salvation Army
Auxiliary she helped make a difference for homeless men.  Jo
also enjoyed helping at the Veterans’ Hospital.  She was a
participant in Women’s Health Initiative.  An enthusiastic
supporter and long time subscriber to Seattle Repertory
Theater, Jo enjoyed sharing live theater with others.  She
and her husband traveled extensively in their retirement
years.  Josephine particularly  enjoyed meeting people from
different cultures and backgrounds.

Josephine had a zest for living and a willingness to
experience new things that will be missed by all those she
touched.

A memorial service was held on Dec. 12 at Providence Mount
St. Vincent.
