Not guilty plea in burglary of dead man's home
Four suspects face multiple charges in the burglary of Leonard Werner, 69. Not guilty pleas were entered Thursday, July 14 at King County Superior Court in Kent. Prosecutors allege 2 men and 1 woman broke into Werner's home and stole his belongings and cars while he lay on the floor dead. A third man is accused of helping the others drain Werner's bank accounts. David Moore is charged with residential burglary, first-degree theft, possession of a stolen firearm and theft of a motor vehicle. He remains in jail and his lawyer is not seeking bail at this time. Justin Moore is charged with residential burglary. He remains in jail and there was no discussion of bail on Thursday. Kasey Guthrie is charged with residential burglary and possession of stolen firearm. The judge agreed to release her from jail. Dylan Lorang is charged with first-degree theft and possession of a stolen vehicle. His lawyer is not seeking bail at this time. Sentence in Burien business owner insurance fraud case
Michael Alan Perkins, owner of Autoglass Express Inc. and Premier Auto Glass LLC, will spend 9 months in jail and have to pay $1.6 million in restitution. Perkins pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree theft. Both glass businesses were run out of his Burien home. State investigators say they found 4,840 instances between 2005 and 2009 in which Perkins' companies told insurance companies they had installed higher priced original glass, when in reality they were installing lower cost aftermarket glass.
Convicted killer charged in Des Moines check scam
A woman was forced to try to pass a bad check by a convicted killer at a Des Moines bank. Darrell Lamont Stewart allegedly forced a woman to walk into a Bank of America at 27077 Pacific Highway S. with a forged check. The woman presented the $390 check to a teller and tearfully told her it was forged and she couldn't return to Stewart without money. Bank staff called police and Stewart was arrested in the parking lot of a nearby restaurant. Stewart told police he'd recently been released from prison after serving a manslaughter sentence and that he had a pending gun charge. He is being held on $340,000 bail.
