The 2nd annual West Seattle High Point Health fair on July 22 was a very busy event with people from all across West Seattle coming for the free, and healthy food, and more importantly, at a time when health insurance is expensive and hard to get, people came for tips on how to get and stay healthy.
Sponsored by the Community Health Plan of Washington, The Seattle Housing Authority, King County Housing Authority and Neighborhood House (where the event was staged at 6400 Sylvan Way s.w.) there were a wide range of information tents and an amazing array of activities.

The Free health services offered included:
Blood pressure checks, a blood glucose test (for potential diabetes), and a rapid HIV test. More than 20 health providers took part.
There was a challenge course set up for kids who had to run through cones, step through a rope ladder on the ground, jump rope, and do pushups.
There was also a Healthy Foods Here Walk which offered visitors five checkpoints over four blocks in the neighborhood, and a 'Passport" that could be checked off as it was completed.
For more information about Healthy foods Here project, please visit the official website at www.healthyfoodshere.com.
Engine 37 from the Seattle Fire Department was on hand to get people involved in fire prevention and give kids a look at a fire engine.
One highlight of the show was the appearance of the Move it or Lose it Dance troupe from Elizabeth House. This is a group of elderly but very active dancers who have performed at Chehalis, at Gatlin House, Mt. St. Vincent and elsewhere in the area. Everywhere they go, one of the dancers said, they are told they want to get a dance troupe going themselves.
Terese Jensen at Providence Elizabeth House is in charge if you'd like them to come and perform. Call her at 206-938-3276.
