The Ballard cross-country team finished in 2nd place on Wednesday, as the Beavers totaled 38 points for the day. The meet took place at Kelsey Creek Park, and featured Newport and Bothell.
Michael Vitz-Wong finished in 4th place with a time of 17:18, while Matt Rusk rounded out the top-5 with a time of 17:31. Victor Bailly and Bryan Quandt also finished in the top-10, with Bailly running a 17:34 at 7th place and Quandt right behind him at 17:49.
Anna Mirenzi continued her strong season, finished tied for 2nd with a time of 20:44. Alyson Fromm ended up tied for 4th place after finishing at 20:51, while Rachel Livengood clocked a 21:51 for 8th place.
Volleyball
The Beaver volleyball team improved to 3-3 on the season with a big conference-win Thursday night against Inglemoor. The Beavers won in 5 games, though they had to come from behind to do so.
Grace Taylor and McKinley Kellogg each had 10 kills, while Kellogg added 3 blocks. Liza Berg also had 5 blocks to go along with her 5 kills, while Deanna Myers totaled 7 kills and 3 aces on the night. Monique Marquez had a game-high 38 assists.
The Beavers came out strong, winning the first game 25-13. But after losing the next two—including a close game 3 by 1-point—they had to rally in the 4th game or lose the match. After taking down the Vikings 25-21, the Beavers finished things in a dominating way, winning game 5 by a score of 15-4.
Soccer
In a closely contested match on Thursday, the Ballard soccer team fell to Redmond 3-2. After surrendering two goals in the first half, the Beavers battled back to make it a game late in the match.
Cassie Winter had an unassisted goal in the 72 minute to cut the lead to one. After Redmond answered with a goal of their own three minutes later, it would’ve been easy for Ballard to give up. But Kat Anesini scored an unassisted goal in the 80 minute to keep the pressure on the Mustangs.
Although the Beavers didn’t get the win, they showed tremendous toughness, coming from behind on the road late in the second half.
Tennis
Ballard lost to Roosevelt 6-1 on Thursday, but two of the Beavers were able to win their doubles match.
Evan Lund and Cole Keller of Ballard beat Jake Tull and Daniel Yang in three sets. The scores were 7-6, 1-6, 10-3.
Golf
The Ballard golf team was in action on Thursday at the Plateau country club, a par-36 where the Beavers took on Skyline. The team totaled 240 strokes on the day.
