Senior Alex Bowns was one of the four Beavers to advance to the bi-district meet on Thursday, as the Beavers competed in the conference meet at Lincoln Park. While the Ballard team didn’t qualify, the top-40 runners advanced to compete individually.
Bowns finished 2nd with a time of 15:39, just six seconds short of the first-place runner. Victor Bailly finished 37th with a time of 16:49 to qualify, while Matt Rusk ran a 16:51 to finish in 39th place.
Junior Anna Mirenzi was the sole runner from the girls’ team to qualify, running a 20:03 on the day for 29th place. She will join the other three Saturday, October 29 for the bi-district meet at Lincoln Park.
Soccer
The Ballard soccer team was in action Thursday night at Memorial, losing 1-0 to Roosevelt. The Roughriders took an early lead off a goal in the 16th minute, and hung on to win the match.
Thursday night was also senior night for the Ballard soccer team, with six of the players competing in their last home game. The Beavers next match will be Tuesday, October 25 at Bothell.
Volleyball
Ballard lost a tough match on Thursday at Issaquah, falling to the Eagles in game 5. The Beavers took games 2 and 3 after losing the first, but couldn’t win a third to take the victory.
Liza Berg had 15 kills on the night along with 3 blocks, while Deanna Myers added 4 aces to her 12 kills. Grace Taylor had 10 kills on the night. Monique Marquez totaled 31 assists.
The Beavers will travel to Roosevelt next Tuesday to take on Roosevelt, the 5th ranked team in the state. The game starts at 7, and is the final regular season match.
