The annual Huling Bowl held at West Seattle Stadium between the two local rivals West Seattle Wildcats and Chief Sealth Seahawks proved to be a very unbalanced match up Friday evening, Oct 21 with West Seattle overpowering Sealth 53-6.
In game of miscues and missed opportunities for Sealth the Wildcats of West Seattle who have been winning lately, took every possible advantage of the Sealth mistakes.
While Sealth's QB Maxwell Sarver completed 8 of 20 attempted passes for 117 yards, he was intercepted twice and the team fumbled three times including one that set the tone for the game in the first quarter.
At first, Sealth did manage a drive (after first giving up a touchdown) and scored but missed the PAT and after that it was all West Seattle.
Before the game (which was also Senior Night for West Seattle during which special senior students were honored), Principals Ruth Medsker of West Seattle and Sealth Principal Chris Kinsey made a wager. "Ruth and I have a bet that if the Seahawks win I get to go to West Seattle High School and be Principal for a day and in the unfortunate event that West Seattle should win she gets to come to Chief Sealth and be Principal for the day. I've got a lot of filing all ready to go," he said laughing, " and emails she needs to attend to." Medsker said in response, "We're all about instruction so we're going to go in the classroom and look at teaching and learning and do some calibration.
The pair were busily grilling up hotdogs for the crowd (which numbered in the hundreds at the pre game BBQ all sponsored by the Huling Brothers for whom the annual contest is named. Food was collected for the West Seattle Food Bank.
