What’s age got to do with it?
Clarification: the original posting of this story failed to mention the man apprehended was arrested for investigation of burglary. It has been updated.
On Oct. 18 shortly after 1 p.m. a North Delridge resident saw three young males suspiciously walking around her neighborhood. She later told police she was hesitant to call 911, but eventually said to herself, “You know what, I’m going to make the call.” Southwest Precinct CPT Officer Kevin McDaniel, who just recently turned 45 years old, was just a block and a half away when the call came in and he headed over to investigate a burglary that has just occurred, coinciding with the three suspicious males. While talking to another potential witness on the street on the 5400 block of 30th Ave S.W., McDaniel said he saw two of the three suspects running down the street. One of them jumped a 10-foot fence into the West Seattle Golf Course while the third kept running down the street. “So I just chased him down, gave verbal commands and continued to run,” McDaniel said. “Luckily I was able to get close enough to him where he felt, ‘OK, you know what, this guy is gonna catch me,’ and he went down to the ground and I just took him into custody with no struggle.” The arrested male was 23 years old, proving proper conditioning can overcome a 22 year age gap in a foot race with a headstart. “He was 23 so, you know, I’ve been talking all day about this,” McDaniel said. “(The other officers) have to listen to this story for the rest of the month.” The other two suspects were able to elude officers in the golf course and the arrested male was taken in for investigation of burglary.
Must have been thirsty
Two suspects entered a convenience store on the 7500 block of California Ave SW on Oct. 18 around 8 p.m. with one thing on their minds: Gatorade. Suspect #1, wearing a Halloween costume with a partial mask, walked to the cooler and pulled out six Gatorades, shoving some into his costume and holding the rest. Unwilling to compromise on his hydration and shoplift lowly water or Powerade, Suspect #2 waited his turn for the Gatorade shelf and loaded up as well. Suspect #1 ran out southbound on 35th and the clerk ran to the door to see where he was headed. Suspect #2 approached the clerk, dropped his armful of Gatorade and sprinted past him to escape.
Theatrical theft
A West Seattle business specializing in sales and rental of theater supplies was burglarized sometime overnight between Oct. 14 and 15. Someone shattered the glass of the front door and stole the following very specific items: Two ETC Source Four Fresnel Lights, a Strand Consol model 200 Plus size 4896 digital light console, an Omni large format black light and four pairs of Hot Hand gloves. Total value was $2640. The victims found it strange that everything stolen was lighting related and told police they suspected a customer who came in occasionally and purchased small items. Employees said the man stuck out because they “considered him odd where they see a lot of odd people.” Keep an eye out for unauthorized theatrical productions with fancy lighting.
