Both teams have been struggling all year having a hard time recording wins. Though the sun was out the temperature was very cold, in the mid 40’s with some wind chill. Tyee shot out of the gate quickly wasting no time scoring their first goal. Senior forward Araceli Esparaza scored the first goal, dribbling in for the close shot putting the Totems up 1-0. Just a couple more minutes into the start of the game Tyee’s second goal was scored, this time by senior midfielder Dalia Fernandez. This would prove to be all Tyee needed as they won the game 2-0. Evergreen’s Emy Suazo was able to score a goal but the goal did not count, due to Evergreen being called off sides.
The whole game Tyee controlled the ball very well, keeping it on Evergreen's side of the field a majority of the time. Tyee was able to outshoot Evergreen 17-3, keeping Evergreen's defense on their toes, especially their goal keeper Jazmin Vargas, who made nine saves throughout the game. Tyee had several more opportunities to score but the shots were either wide of the net or stopped and cleared by the Wolverine defense.
On the other end of the field Tyee goal keeper Jordan Kelly didn’t have much to deal with the whole game, having to only defend against three shots on goal from Evergreen. Both teams showed a great amount of sportsmanship towards each other throughout the game, which is something you do not see very often these days in sports.
After the game, the Tyee head coach said “they played very well, played together, and open to switching positions to give other players a chance to score.”
She congratulated all their seniors saying she was proud of them, then added, “People should be looking out for Tyee because it’s a growing program and we have great fans that are so supportive."
