Boys basketball:
After beating the number two ranked team, Skyline, on Wednesday, Beavers traveled to Garfield High School on Friday night for some tough competition.
The number six ranked team allowed the Beavers to gain an early lead but soon started catching up.
After gaining a nine-point-lead in the first quarter, the Beavers continued to stay in the lead throughout the second quarter despite the fact that Garfield outscored them. At halftime, Ballard was still ahead 31 to 24.
But Garfield made a strong comeback in the third quarter outscoring Ballard 19 to 11 and getting ahead by one point.
The final quarter was a back-and-forth battle between the team but Ballard did not have what it took to catch up. Beavers lost 60 to 53.
Seth Berger led his team in scoring with 26 points and 10 rebounds.
Girls Basketball:
The Lady Beavers' game could have gone either way all game, with no clear winner.
Ballard took the lead early on in the game, going into the second quarter with a score of 17 to 11.
Garfield quickly caught up for a halftime score of 25 to 26 for Garfield.
The back-and-forth game continued after halftime with Ballard coming out on top at the end of the third quarter. Trailing only seven points behind, Garfield knew this was their last shot to win the game and played a strong game, outscoring Ballard 15 to 5.
In the end Ballard lost 57 to 54.
Ballard's top scorer was Cailey Beckett with 18 points and six rebounds.
