Update for 8 p.m., Feb. 28
No official word from the King County Sheriff's Office on the hostage situation on the 15400 block of 1st Ave S. in Burien, but new details from a witness who works directly across the street from the Pawn XChange:
According to the witness, the incident started at storage units near the pawn shop, not inside the pawn shop as initial reports indicated. He also said the hostage situation is taking place in a vehicle, not the store.
UPDATE: According to our reporter on the scene, police are keeping an eye on both the pawn shop and a white vehicle parked out front, so the hostage situation may be taking place in either location.
He saw a car pull away from the storage units with a KCSO patrol car in pursuit and stop in front of a nail salon at which time occupants fired a weapon at the deputy.
The witness said he saw one man attempt to flee the suspect vehicle as the deputy lowered his rifle and fired back. He saw the fleeing suspect "drop."
