Professional actor, Brian Sutherland, who portrays a superhero on a web TV series, chased a purse snatcher for a mile today and retrieved the item, belonging to woman in her late 60's. Sutherland, a former West Seattle resident, stars as a soldier in the just-completed, and West Seattle-produced "All My Presidents", filmed here on North Admiral.

He also happens to portray a superhero named "Super Star" in The Collectibles, a satirical web TV series scheduled to be launched in April. Many in its cast and crew live in West Seattle.

Sutherland was heading back from an audition on Queen Anne with some fellow actors from "All My Presidents" when he witnessed a man in his 30's stealing a woman's purse.

"I heard her screaming and saw the man running and I ran after him," said Sutherland. "I told my wife to watch our two year-old and that I would be right back. I called 911 while running. It was about 6:30 p.m. I chased him up Queen Anne Hill for about a mile and finally I saw him hide in a storage unit. I pounded on the door and said 'We have you surrounded'. He came out with his hands up and then realized no one was there but me.

"He started running again and then I saw a police car," he said. "We went looking for him, and then I saw a man who looked like him, but without the hat or black jacket (the purse snatcher) had been wearing. I said, 'Stop', and then the cops did too, but he kept walking. Then they charged, and apprehended him."

Both the victim and "Super Star" identified the suspect, who was then arrested. According to "The Collectibles" website, Super Star possess superhuman strength and can leap in excess of 1 kilometer. All this without the aid of his superhuman costume, blue tights adorned with gold stars and cape.
