Genesee-Schmitz Neighborhood Council wants people to speak up on loss of routes 51 and 53
Mon, 04/23/2012
The Genesee-Schmitz Neighborhood Council is urging people to voice their opinion about the coming changes to Metro bus service to the area. Next September, Metro will institute Rapid Ride Line C and a bevy of other changes, among them the elimination of routes 51 and 53.
In a release to neighbors and council members Kerrie Schurr wrote:
"If you have not yet had the chance to let Metro how you feel about their plan to eliminate the #51 and 53 buses that serve our area, you have one last chance to do so. You may give testimony in person this Wednesday, April 25, at a King County Council committee meeting, or you may submit written comments.
One GSNC resident who works for Metro says that they have been fairly responsive to other neighborhoods' requests to save their bus service, so if you'd like to see one or both of these routes saved, please let Metro know.
From the Metro website:
"The committee meeting will start at 9:30 a.m. in the King County Council Chamber on the 10th floor of the King County Courthouse (516 Third Avenue in Seattle). Members of the public are welcome to attend and provide public testimony. To request a language interpreter or accommodations for persons with disabilities, please contact Paul Carlson, Council staff, at (206) 296-1673 by this Friday. You may also submit comments to the King County Council email address for this topic at testimony@kingcounty.gov."

Once these routes are gone, the nearest bus service will be on Admiral Way or California Avenue SW, which could be quite a hike "up hill and down dale" for folks living in the western part of our area."
