Cinco de Mayo in Ballard
Fri, 05/04/2012
Saturday is Cinco de Mayo and here are some ideas on where in Ballard to celebrate this day:
Bad Albert’s Tap & Grill – 5100 Ballard Ave NW
From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Bad Albert’s will host live music and much dancing. Ed Taylor Band and Keely Whitney will be playing Motown, rock and pop grooves throughout the evening.
There will also have special prices on Mexican themed foods and drinks. The wide selection of alcohol will include: $5 Sangria, $4 Margaritas, $3 tequila shots, $10 buckets of Corona, and $3 Dos Equis. Food deals will include: $5 for two beef tacos, $4 for three house-made chimichangas, $4 for two tostadas, $5 for chorizo nachos, $5 for hot wings.
The Matador – 2221 NW Market St
For $6, sip on the Cinco Margarita, a classic citrus version made from scratch with Cuervo Tradicional Silver Tequila
Or, for $8, knock back a Cinco Shot + Beer, which gives you an ounce and a half of Cuervo Tradicional Reposado and a refreshing Dos Equis to wash it down
As always, Matador will be offering their exceptional happy hour food from 4 – 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. – 1 a.m.
Azteca Mexican Restaurant, 2319 NW Market St.
It’s the longest standing Mexican restaurant location in Ballard with over 30 years of tradition. Although Azteca has other locations accommodating Seattle residents from every neighborhood, nothing quite compares to the Market Street establishment.
The place will be decked out in Cinco de Mayo décor, compliments of the beer corporations, with friendly, neighborhood service that has been there for generations.
Behind the counter and in the kitchen, it’s all mostly family, and, when you’re there, you’ll get treated like one of the family, too.
Coronas and margaritas will be on special to accompany your meal.
Senor Moose, 5242 NW Leary Ave.
On the outside, it’s a small, homey Ballard restaurant. On the inside, it’s a Mexican fonda straight from the heart of the country.
Their dishes derive from the popular dishes of each region guaranteeing an authentic flavor to each forkful. It’s Mexico on a plate.
Sure they’ll decorate a bit for the day, and keep your tequila glass full, but it’s the food and neighborly dining experience you should go for. From ensaladas to mole to enchiladas, each dish is comida tipica.
Tractor Tavern – 5213 Ballard Ave
Between bar stops and dining, the Tractor as two great shows to check out – one early and show and one evening show.
At 5 p.m. A B & The Sea will play with guests Tommy & The High Pilots and Bellamaine. Return at 9:30 p.m. Side Saddle will host a night of Americana featuring Mark Pickerel (Screaming Trees), Kaylee Cole, Kevin Large, Bryan John Appleby and others. It may be a change of pace from the typical Cinco De Mayo festivities, but promises to be a thrilling night of folk and country.
