Poor dog … poor house
On April 30th a woman returned to her 35th Ave S.W. home after work to disastrous circumstances. The main floor was flooded with water and it was quickly drowning out the basement. On the main floor she noticed her computer tower lying on its side, partially submerged, with all of the cords unplugged. Investigating further, she found her Chocolate Labrador Retriever shaking in the bathtub – the only spot of respite from a soggy floor. The toilet was torn from the tile and water was gushing from the water line. The victim believes her dog, described as a “big baby,” probably startled the burglar as he was trying to steal the computer. Equally startled, she figures her canine companion fled to the bathroom and crashed into the toilet, breaking it away and causing the flood. The victim had homeowner’s insurance and flood recovery services were on site by the time police arrived.

Couple argues; bullet flies
On the afternoon of May 5th Seattle Police received word that a vehicle had crashed into some trees south of the West Seattle Golf Course and witnesses heard a gunshot. Arriving at the scene they discovered a 17-year-old female who was lucky to be unscathed. Her 24-year-old boyfriend was driving a white 2001 Chevy Monte Carlo when the two got into a fight and he assaulted her. During the disturbance that followed the male lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the woods. He got out of the vehicle, pulled out a gun and fired a shot at his girlfriend before running into the woods. A bullet hit the passenger side door, but the female was not hit. The suspect is still at large.

Grab, rip and run
A woman was robbed walking in the alley behind the McDonald’s at California Ave S.W. and S.W. Stevens St. It was 5 p.m. on April 27th when an unknown suspect crept up on the victim and ripped a necklace from her neck before fleeing down the alley.

Oscar the Thief
Around 4 p.m. on April 30 a woman witnessed two young males breaking into a storage unit on the 9200 block of 15th Ave S.W. Police responded and found one of the suspects riding his bike along 15th. He denied any involvement and said he was riding to DSHS for his housing voucher. The boy had a plastic gun in his pocket, a hammer strapped to his bike and an Oscar the Grouch cookie jar in a bag. The witness identified the boy as one of the thieves and he was taken into custody. Police said the suspect kept changing his story on the cookie jar and it was unclear if it was the item he decided to steal. His accomplice escaped, possibly with cookies.

Walking in on crime
A couple living on the 6500 block of 23rd Ave S.W. returned home shortly after 3 p.m. on April 26 and noticed a black car parked in front of their house. The driver started honking his horn as they pulled into the garage. The victims walked inside and confronted two young males ransacking the home. The suspects were carrying pillow cases (taken from the home) full of loot and escaped out the back door, jumping the fence to the east. The suspects were not wearing gloves and police were able to gather five good prints.
