Man arrested at grocery after trying to kidnap employee
A 43 year old Seattle man was arrested July 27 after attempting to kidnap an Albertson's employee by dragging her into his van. The incident occurred just before 5 p.m. at the Albertson's located at South 128th Street and 1 Avenue South. Deputies said a 21 year old female employee was in the parking lot of the store gathering shopping carts. The suspect, who was not known to the victim, approached her and tried to convince her to get into his van. When the victim would not get into the van the suspect grabbed her arm and attempted to pull her into the van. A nearby witness called 911 and ran to assist the victim. The victim was able to get away from the suspect and ran into the store to hide. Witnesses said the suspect then went into the store and peared to be looking for the woman. King County Sheriff's deputies arrived quickly and took the suspect into
custody as he was leaving the store. Deputies said the victim was very shaken up after the incident. The victim told deputies that prior to the suspect grabbing the her, he tried to used a number of ploys
to get her near his van, including telling her there was a cart near the van and asking her if she wanted to see the refrigerator in his van. It is because we had citizens willing to act, help, and do the right thing that something very bad did not happen to this woman, said King County Sheriff Sergeant Pat McCurdy. This is another example of why it is important for people to trust their instincts and have important conversations with their children. The suspect was booked into the King County Jail. The case will be forwarded to the King County Prosecutor for the filing of charges.
Tukwila police agree to $22,500 pepper-spray settlement
Tukwila police have agreed to pay a $22,500 settlement to Alex Day who alleged he was pepper-sprayed, handcuffed and left to sit by a police officer. That same officer was involved in a Taser incident with Tukwila paying $12,500 in another settlement. Alex Day,19 at the time of his July 8, 2008 arrest, was allegedly obstructing a police
officer after he and a friend attended an illegal street race near the West Valley Highway. His attorneys, Jay Krulewitch and Michael Kolker, say Day and two friends attempted to hide atop a large truck in the area when police responded to break up the
races. Day was a witness, not a participant, and had not broken any laws, the lawyers claimed. Day said he climbed down from the truck after he and an officer, Josh Vivet, traded words. He claimed that, as he was climbing down, the officer, grabbed him, sprayed him in the face with pepper spray, and then ordered him to the ground and handcuffed him. Day claims Vivet left the pepper spray on his face for hours despite
repeated requests for water or a wet cloth to wipe it off. The court pleadings indicate that it is Tukwila Police Department policy to render aid as soon as possible to individuals who have been pepper-sprayed. Vivet, however, said in a sworn deposition that he has used pepper spray on suspects more than 20 times and has never provided them with water or other means to flush the burning spray out of their eyes and off their faces
