Art in the Garden

According to the website, the 12th Annual Ballard Art in the Garden is "poised to be our biggest and best yet!" The garden, full of ripening tomatoes, giant sunflowers, dahlias, and other wonderful plants, is already colorful and pretty enough on its own.

But then there's 24 local artists featuring their work at the garden, live music, a beer garden and a bake sale, all making this a good ol' fashioned garden party. And an artistic one to boot. More info

The event is located at the Ballard P-Patch, one mile north of Downtown Ballard on 8527 25th Ave NW, Seattle, WA. It's going on all day, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"Let's Walk Ballard" greenway walk

Ballard Greenways is hosting a walk along the proposed greenway roads along 58th St NW, from West Woodland Elementary to Ballard Commons Park. The greenway is meant to make the neighborhood safer and more accessible to pedestrians, bicyclists and children. Ballard News-Tribune reported on an open house about the subject last week. The walk starts at 2 p.m. and ends at 3 p.m. More info

Seafair Weekend

It's the time of year either people love or hate. Seafair. Blue Angels. Hoards of people. Hydroplanes skidding on the water.

There are usually a few options people choose from on this fateful weekend: run away, stay indoors and load up on snack foods, or dive wholeheartedly into the chaotic jumble of people swarming the shores of Lake Washington.

If you do the first, have a fun weekend out away from the city, go camping, warm yourself in the night by a nice fire and tell ghost stories. If the second is your fare, there is sometimes no better combination than beer, pretzels and nachos. And, finally, if you fall into the slightly-crazed category, then by all means go all out, bring a cooler full of goodies, and claim a patch of land in the name of You.
