8:00 a.m., August 2. NW 90th St and 24th Ave NW

Staff at North Beach Elementary arrived on campus on the morning of August 2nd to find that the playground had been damaged by several Molotov cocktails. The playground was covered in broken glass and scorch marks, but the building was not damaged. Seattle Police’s arson/bomb squad is investigating.

12:10 a.m., July 31. 92nd block of Holman Rd NW near 13th Ave NW

A man was rushed to the hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries when he was hit by a car while crossing the street just after midnight. The victim, a man in his twenties, was treated at the scene before being transported to Harborview Medical Center. The driver of the vehicle, a man in his fifties, was evaluated for signs of intoxication, but alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the incident. The driver was interviewed and released, and the investigation is ongoing. Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the collision to call Detective Scott Schmidt at (206) 684-8935.

9:04 a.m., July 30. 97th block of Greenwood Ave N

Police responded to reports of a burglary at a construction site on the morning of July 30th. The burglary occurred between the afternoon of July 27th and the morning of July 30th. The suspect broke a window in the building and stole two 25-foot extension cords from the nearest room. The suspect also stole several items from another room, including a demolition bar, several extension cords, a level, a shop vacuum, battery chargers, and a vise. The suspect exited this room by hacking through a section of drywall, then stole more items from another room. No fingerprints were found at the scene.

8:48 a.m., July 29. 24th block of NW 85th St

Police responded to reports of a burglary at an office on the morning of July 29th. The complainant said that she arrived at the building to find her office door damaged, the cabinets open, and a laptop missing. Police determined that the point of entry was a broken window; outside the window was a sandbag that was likely used to smash it. Several doors throughout the building had been damaged. Fingerprints were lifted from the windowsill where the suspect entered as well as from a large mirror the suspect had moved.

11:35 a.m., July 25. 87th block of Greenwood Ave N

A loss prevention officer called police after his partner was assaulted by a shoplifter at the convenience store where the two worked. The complainant said that he and his partner saw the suspect enter the store and put a bottle of tequila and a bottle of vodka into a paper bag, which he then hid in his jacket. The victim waited by the exit, displaying his loss prevention badge, and watched the suspect exit the store without paying. He then approached the suspect, identified himself, and told the suspect to stop. The suspect punched the victim twice on the side of his face and knocked him to the ground, then dropped the bottles and ran away. Police conducted an area search but were unable to locate the suspect.
