After the traditional summer break for the White Center Chamber of Commerce, the meeting at Luso Fine Foods and Wine (9988 15th Ave. s.w.) had some news and developments to discuss.
Topping the list was the new website, funded by the Chamber's effort to secure a grant from the Seattle Office of Economic Development. That site, www.visitwhitecenter.com goes live this week and is quite extensive.

White Center Farmers Market
Some discussion was spent on the potential return of the White Center Farmers Market which has been defunct for nearly a decade now. Ray Zombro of the Evergreen Campus mentioned that at the time of its demise it was thought that it might present a conflict with the existing produce markets in the community. Still, there's a chance it will come back next spring.
CDA Auction Announcement
Mikel Davila reminded the group that the White Center Community Development Association Auction is coming up Friday Sept. 21. This fund raising event is featuring an auction and will take place at the Jerry Brockey Center at SSCC from 6 to 9pm. Tickets are $65 each and can be purchased online.
White Center Food Bank Dinner and Auction
This fund raising event is set for Oct. 20 beginning at 5:30, also at the Jerry Brockey Center. They are seeking donated items that can be auctioned. If you'd like to help download the Auction Procurement form.
Other brief reports included news about the White Center Murals project. Ray Zombro reported that the large mural on the north wall of Saar's Marketplace Foods begun last spring is half complete and work is set to resume on it this week.
Chamber President Mark Ufkes said that the series of Homeless Summit meetings will continue with the next one set for Sept. 21 from 9 to 11 am at WestSide Baby 10027 14th s.w.
He also shared that the Chamber is currently seeking nominations for White Center Heroes. These are people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty for the community in the past year. If you have someone to nominate contact Ufkes at markufkes@comcast.net
