Two men arrested for forcing teen to engage in prostitution
Two men accused of forcing a teenage girl to work as a prostitute and raping a woman who refused to work for them pleaded not guilty Monday, Oct. 8 in Pierce County Superior Court in Tacoma. Lakewood police arrested the men after an investigation and the FBI's Innocence Lost Task Force received a tip Oct. 2 that a 16-year-old was being advertised as an escort. Undercover officers met her at a SeaTac motel and took her into custody. The second woman claims she was beaten and assaulted because she refusd to work as a prostitute. Eugene Andre Young, 28, and Claude Anthony Hutchinson, 25, pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and promoting commercial sexual abuse of a minor.
SeaTac car crash leads to fatality
One person was killed when a car crashed and caught fire late Thursday, Oct. 4 in SeaTac. The driver was southbound on 35th Ave. S. when the car slammed into a utility pole near 176th St. The driver died at the scene and has not been identified. No one else was in the car. Officials said there were no signs that the driver tried to stop before hitting the pole. The incident is under investigation.
Woman killed in Des Moines hit-and-run
A 52-year-old woman who was hospitalized following a hit-and-run accident Thursday night, Oct. 4 in Des Moines died two days later, police said. The woman was struck around 9 p.m. crossing Marine View Drive in the 22700 block. She was hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center in critical condition immediately after the accident. Des Moines police are looking for a tan or yellow older model four-door Toyota or similar vehicle. The car should have fresh front-end damage, police said. Anyone with information on the car or the accident is asked to call Des Moines police at 206-878-3301.
Tukwila bank teller accused of taking $11,000
A Tukwila bank teller is accused of taking $11,000 in cash while accusing an innocent customer. Security video didn't capture a robbery on tape. Jane Sol, the 25-year-old former Chase Bank employee, accused a longtime customer of committing the crime. Dan Donohoe with the King County Prosecutor's Office said Sol is charged with felony theft and false reporting. According to court documents, Sol admitted to police that she took the money from the bank.
Inquest ordered in Tukwila death
An inquest has been ordered into the death of Victor Duffy, who died after a confrontation with Tukwila police in his parents’ home.
The King County Medical Examiner’s Office said Duffy’s death was associated with excited delirium following physical restraint.
Two brothers make claims against Tukwila police
The Tukwila Police Department has launched an internal investigation resulting from claims by two brothers who say they were approached late one night and beaten by Tukwila police officers during an arrest caught on a patrol car’s dash video.
The brothers, Charles Chappelle and Jahmez Amili, said in a Q13 interview Wednesday, Oct. 10 they were unjustly approached and beaten up during the May 12 arrest. They filed a formal complaint, prompting Tukwila police to launch an internal investigation. In the arrest video, Chappelle can be seen with his arms raised.
“I immediately put my hands in the air; I didn't resist; I didn't mouth off. I asked him, please, not to shoot me with the Taser,” Chappelle said.
“I got on the ground, they told me to get on the ground instantly. Next thing I know, I am getting punched in the face and sprayed by Mace,” Amili said.
Police reports say an officer spotted the two walking on the 61st Avenue overpass while responding to a report of a fight on a party bus that reportedly happened nearby. The two said they did nothing wrong. But the police officer involved said the brothers refused to stop and "continued walking away."
That’s when that officer pointed his taser at them. Then a second officer arrived, then a third. The brothers can be seen taken to the ground on the video. The brothers said the video proves excessive force, while the police report accuses Chappelle of punching a cop during the arrest. One of the officers wrote that Amili reached "toward his waistband" and the officers "feared he may be armed."
Woman with leukemia says TSA humiliated her
Michelle Dunaj, from the Detroit area, was making an "end of life" trip to Hawaii, stopping at Sea-Tac Airport and said she was embarrassed by a TSA security pat-down. She said agents refused to give her a private screening when she asked for one, asked her to pull back bandages and forced her to open a saline bag, which contaminated it.
TSA, which has not spoken to Dunaj, denies that its agents asked Dunaj to open the saline pack or her bandages, according to the Associated Press. She called her airline, Alaska ahead of time to find out what the procedure would be for traveling with prescription medicine and to request a wheelchair, but, when she got to security, Dunaj said, "nothing happened as it should."
