Burien Winterfest offers holiday fun

Burien’s Winterfest celebration offers the chance to shop local while enjoying a free celebration brimming with activities for the whole family on Saturday, Dec. 1.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Burien’s holiday-bedecked streets will be packed with live singing by the Marvista Elementary School choir, in-store specials, horse-and-carriage rides, scavenger hunt at local businesses, holiday crafts for kids, hot treats and photos with Santa Claus, even for the family hound.
Help boost the local economy while saving time, money and fuel by shopping in Burien. Take advantage of Winterfest in-store specials and gift-wrapping at some shops. Burien’s small businesses are the place to find unique presents ranging from affordable fine wines to handcrafted chocolate, pet care, hand-beaded jewelry, cute and comfortable shoes, facials and more. Warm up with free hot treats like cocoa and spiced cider at various shops.
Canines as well as people can update their photo albums with a free picture posing with jolly old Saint Nicholas or SantaDog from 10 to 4 p.m. People can join Santa for snapshots at Prudential Northwest Realty Associates, 930 S.W. 152nd St. Canines can ham it up for the cameras with SantaDog at The Mark Restaurant & Bar, 918 S.W. 152nd St.
Don’t miss this opportunity to win a shopping spree in a scavenger hunt at local businesses. Get a secret word at each participating store and combine the words to make the correct sentence. Then bring the sentence to the yellow Winterfest tent on Southwest 152nd Street to be entered into a drawing for a shopping spree at Burien businesses. Grab a Winterfest guide with a map of scavenger hunt locations, available at participating shops and the yellow Winterfest information tent on Southwest 152nd Street.
Take in the sweet sounds of the Marvista choir singing live at 1 p.m. in Olde Burien. Youngsters can try their hand at with holiday crafts for kids from noon to 4 p.m. at Collins Chiropractic, 619 S.W. 152nd St.
A horse-and-carriage ride will provide free transportation from 1 to 4 p.m. along Southwest 152nd Street between Olde Burien and Burien Town Square.
Winterfest sponsors are Caring Hands Dental, El Dorado West, Prudential Northwest Realty Associates, Super Supplements and the Discover Burien Association, a nonprofit organization that works on the economic development, promotion and marketing of the city.
