There was a release party Friday night, Feb. 8, at 9:00 p.m., as Seattle-based rockers Van Eps will release their second video single "Save Yourself" (after "Go Ahead") and performed live at the Feedback Lounge, 6451 California Ave SW.

The release party unveiled the single's music video directed by West Seattle video artist Jamie Burton Chamberlin of Black Dahlia Films followed by a live performance.

Peace Mercutio will also be playing a set.

"Save Yourself", produced by Scott Olson, is performed by the four-member band of Matt Strutynski- Lead Vocals and Guitar, Jake Jovanovich- Vocals and Drums, Bobby Steenrod- Bass, & Brad Steenrod- Lead Guitar.

Jake Jovanovich lives in Burien. Matt Strutynski lives in West Seattle. Bobby Steenrod lives in White Center. Brad Steenrod lives in Federal Way. The band met in high school in Burien.

"We were all high school buddies from Kennedy High School," said Jovanovich, 23. "I was a junior in and so was Bobby who was my best friend since third grade. Bobby's older brother, Brad, was in the same class as Matt. We started playing together and it stuck. We clicked."

His other gig is at his family business, Gene Summy Lumber on West Marginal Way. Each band member has another job, but their goal is to make a full-time living playing music.

"I'm pretty impressed by what Jamie did," said Jovanovich. "The creativity that comes out of Jamie's thought process is pretty incredible."

Said Strutynski, "Both this video and the first video were shot by Jamie at The Feedback, so it only seemed fitting to have the release party there. While 'Go Ahead' (our first single) focused on how we like to goof off and the fun party nature of our shows, 'Save Yourself' shows off a bit of our darker rock and roll side, and I couldn't be happier with how the song and the video turned out.

"We will be releasing one more single with a video, as well as a full length album soon," he said. "Though dates for those have not been decided, we plan to have the third single released by mid-spring and the album done by the end of this year."

Said Chamberlin, "Vans Eps are one of those young bands that seem to have all their cards in place, talent, a strong production and recording team, and a dedication to making it all happen."

He said there has been a lot of excitement about their Jan. 13 sold-out Showbox at the Market concert, with Windowpane.

"While 'Go Ahead' (our first single) focused on how we like to goof off and the fun party nature of our shows, 'Save Yourself' shows off a bit of our darker rock and roll side, and I couldn't be happier with how the song and the video turned out," Strutynski added. While some of their music may be considered "bad-ass", they conveyed an endearing quality that seemed to connect with the Feedback audience.

Van Eps fan, and long-time friend of the band, Pam Butterfield, a West Seattle High School graduate, is not a musician. But you might say she is a crucial member of their crew.

"I'm going to be the band's official dentist," said Butterfield with pride, who has a practice in Kent, adding with tongue-in-cheek, "They said they wouldn't charge me for the privilege of working on their famous teeth."

The West Seattle Herald recently reported on another Chamberlin project, the just-completed 11-episode Duff McKagan video "The Taking" featuring his band, Loaded.
