A great Ballardite and a great Pacific Northwest artist, Alden Mason, died Feb. 6 after a bout with flu and pneumonia, according to the Seattle Times. He was 93.
While working in the Puget Sound region all of his life, he was celebrated well beyond the area, with exhibits in San Francisco, Los Angeles and New York, according to the Seattle Times. His paintings hang in museums, galleries and private collections throughout the states.
Mason eventually settled down in Ballard and was a resident of Ballard's Lock Vista Apartments (he was the central subject in our story about the apartments possibly converting into condos back in 2007).
We'll update this story.
