If the measure of a man's impact is how many celebrations are held in his honor, then Jerry Ceis measured up pretty well. The official wake for Jerry Ceis was held at the American Legion Hall on Sunday Feb. 24 and people gathered to remember the former Seafair Pirate and self styled adventurer. The organizer of the event Doug Williams said, "We had the memorial and that was good. But this is meant to be a party with music, food, drinks and friends. This is a party Jerry would have really enjoyed."

There have been two previous events held in memory for Ceis who died on Jan. 9 following an illness.

Playing music for the event was the duo known as Fever. Karl Anderson and Don Frampton played 50's, 60's, rock n' roll for the crowd that gathered.

At the front of the hall was a table set for one with a placard that read,

"The table is small symbolizing the frailty of our lives. The flowers fade, the grass withers, the sunset fades, and seas go calm.

A slice of lemon reminds us of his bitter fate.

The salt sprinkled on the plate reminds us of the fallen tears of family and friends.

The glasses are inverted. He cannot toast us this night.

The chair is empty. He is not here except for his ashes.

Please all join in a final toast to Jeremy Phillip Ceis."

A toast was indeed drunk in his honor and people shared memories of their relationship with him through the years, in this, the last goodbye.
