Kids robbing kids
On Feb. 13 police responded to a fight call on the 4500 block of Delridge Way S.W. It was reported that five juveniles were fighting with each other. Police arrived to investigate and discovered the melee was a spillover from an armed robbery the day before. The victim in that robbery told police his friend is a marijuana dealer and that they went to meet with another teen to sell a half ounce. They went to a park near a church on the 5700 block of Delridge Way S.W. (which police said is a “gang member hangout and also known for narcotic sales”). Once there, the supposed buyer said he would not buy the weed unless it was purple. The dealer broke the bud open to show purple color inside. Another teen stepped out of the woods with a shotgun at that point and robbed the dealer and his friend of their belongings, including electronics and drugs. Back to the melee the next day, police were able to detain their suspected robber, who requested a lawyer back at the precinct. Police talked with the suspect’s mother, who said she was aware her son was involved with a gang and was not surprised he was suspected in a robbery. When police asked the victims of the robbery why they didn’t call police after the incident, one replied, “They (the robbers) did not do anything wrong robbing a couple kids selling weed, what can you do? The cops aren’t going to do anything.”
Safeway becomes a safe house
As midnight approached on Feb. 13, a woman was walking home alone from a Junction bar to her Fauntleroy Way abode when she felt a hand on her right shoulder. She turned around and came face-to-face with a black male, about 6 feet tall wearing a gray ski mask and black jacket. The man pointed a “large” handgun at her and demanded she put her belongings on the ground. The victim began screaming and never stopped, running into a nearby Safeway about a block away. A witness saw the incident and reported when the victim began screaming, the suspect ran the other way. She did not drop any of her belongings. Police searched the area but were unable to track their suspect.
Not a chance
Just after 1 p.m. on Feb. 22, a neighbor saw someone trying to break down the rear door of a house on the 5000 block of 35th Ave. S.W. and called 911. Police responded and set up containment around the house. An officer and sergeant approached the front door just as the suspect was walking out, forcing a detour into his escape route to a south gate that lead into Camp Long. The 24-year-old male ran into another officer along his revised route. He was successfully detained and booked into King County Jail for investigation of burglary.
